To make this bread, I used my standard yeast dough measurements. This dough can also be used to make pizza or flatbread! I will be referring back to this recipe for my flatbread recipe which I’ll post after this!
yield: four pita loaves
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon instant dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup warm water
1 teaspoon olive oil
in a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, yeast, and salt. add the water and mix until a moist dough forms. add the olive oil and place the dough on a flat surface. continue to add flour until a soft dough forms. (note that I’m using instant yeast, which is why I didn’t “proof” the yeast in warm water before starting. if you are familiar with this method and prefer it, by all means do so!) continue kneading for 5-8 minutes. place the dough ball back into an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and place in a warm area for 1-2 hours or until the dough has doubled in size. (I preheated my oven to “warm” then turned it off and placed the bowl into the oven to rise.)
cut the dough into four equally sized portions and form four dough balls. roll out each dough ball with a rolling pin into a 1/4 inch thick circle. place onto a hot, lightly oiled skillet (medium heat) and cook for a couple minutes on each side. remove from heat and serve with hummus or a salad and enjoy!
